During December, in an afternoon group therapy session for women in our residential treatment program, a Therapist drew a big Christmas tree on the white board. She talked to the group about the Christmas holiday and how in the past, they may have received gifts like new pajamas, a sweater or other tangible things in their stockings or under the tree. She challenged them to think differently this year, since being in recovery will bring many new “gifts” to their life. Each woman got to color a paper ornament and write something they view as a new “gift” they are receiving this year, as a result of their sobriety. These are some of the things they decorated their “Christmas tree of Recovery” with:
How encouraging to see the gifts that our clients are ready to receive as a result of their sobriety! Thanks to ALL who are making that possible through your support of The Next Door!
