walking alongside women

Our Tailor-Made Approach

The Next Door is dedicated to walking alongside women struggling with addiction and empowering them for lifetime recovery. We believe there is a beautiful, fulfilling life beyond addiction and we are here to help you find it, embrace it, and build upon it. We provide a variety of programs and services, all tailor-made for each woman’s unique set of needs.

Because addiction is a complex disease, our treatment model includes a wide variety of therapeutic approaches to best serve the needs of each woman. Our substance use treatment in Nashville blends multiple therapies to equip women with the skills needed for lifelong recovery.

In addition to our behavioral therapies, we believe community plays an important part of a woman’s sobriety. Addiction is a disease of isolation, and without professional help, you may not know how to start your recovery journey. The Next Door helps women discover peer support recovery groups and connect with others in recovery through our alumni base since 2004.

SPECIALIZED THERAPIES AT OUR TREATMENT CENTER

Dialectic Behavorial Therapy (DBT)

DBT is utilized to help women cope with difficult emotions, build communication skills, and increase their ability to participate in the world around them. Often, in early recovery, people can feel overwhelmed. Learning the evidence-based tools DBT offers can help our clients navigate the emotional and relational challenges they face.

Motivational Interviewing
(MI)

MI is a therapeutic approach used to help clients explore the possibilities and challenges of their brave choice to recover. We know that recovery requires a person to make difficult decisions and MI can help to explore the barriers to making those decisions, along with the benefits.

Family
Recovery Programming

We know addiction is a family disease and impacts more people than those with a substance use disorder. We intentionally include families in the recovery process since they are an integral part of our clients’ sober support. We want to equip both the women we serve, and their families, with psychoeducation and tangible skills needed to maintain lifelong recovery.

Faith-Based Recovery

A woman’s spiritual health is a vital part of her overall wellness. While at The Next Door, clients learn spiritual practices that can strengthen their connection to God and nurture their spiritual health. As a faith-based treatment center, we want our clients to know that they are created in the image of God and deeply loved by God. We meet women wherever they are spiritually, modeling God’s love for them through our words and actions.

Peer Recovery

We know one of our best resources is other women in recovery walking alongside our clients – our Certified Peer Recovery Specialists (CPRS) follow clients through all levels of care and stay connected even after their time at TND. Our CPRS provide unmatched empathy for clients navigating the challenges of what it truly means to live lifelong recovery. This team specifically helps connect clients with a recovery community including AA/NA.

Medication-Assisted Treatment

The Next Door believes in a scientific approach to recovery by providing Medication-Assisted Treatment as a tool clients can use in unison with other therapeutic elements to assist in a safe recovery. For opioid use disorder and alcohol use disorder, there are a variety of medications (Sublocade, Vivitrol, Naltrexone, Subutex, and Suboxone) that are available for clients who qualify for them at The Next Door. Medications used in MAT are designed to meet each clients’ specific needs.

Individual Therapy

Each woman comes to our facility with specific needs and our certified therapists work to meet them exactly where they are through one-on-one weekly meetings to create a custom treatment plan for their stay. Specifically, our therapist team helps clients explore their triggers, develop coping skills, set boundaries, and build self-esteem by addressing guilt and shame.

Group Therapy

Clients can engage in group therapy multiple times a day – ranging in topics presented by clinical therapists, CPRS, community partners, and recovery advocates. We know the power of not being alone and group therapy is a safe space to find connection and learn new ways to live. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to recovery, and The Next Door offers clients a truly personal path to self-discovery and recovery through active participation in group therapy sessions.

Health and Wellness Therapies

We know addiction deteriorates a woman’s physical health and is sometimes rooted in chronic pain, so it is a priority of The Next Door to help women focus on rebuilding their bodies. We do this through meditation, yoga, classes at the YMCA, walking groups, learning tangible ways to include joyful movement in our relapse prevention plan, and providing advanced medical care from a family nurse practitioner.

Psychiatric Care

Addiction doesn’t happen in a bubble; there are a wide range of factors that contribute to substance use disorder. A part of each client’s treatment includes psychiatric evaluation to best treat the whole woman standing in front of us. We empower each client to make the best choices for their own mental health care now and in the future. The Next Door has multiple psychiatric providers in-house to treat co-occurring disorders.

Case Management

Our advanced case managers work one-on-one with each client to create a custom aftercare plan including sober housing, mental health services, outpatient referrals, and MAT needs as determined by TND’s medical team. Case managers collaborate with clients to set them up for success in lifelong recovery.

12-Step Programming

While in treatment, clients learn about the history of AA/NA, the importance of sponsorship, how to find a meeting after treatment, and meeting etiquette. On an individual level, clients complete up to step three with a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist. In group settings, TND holds 12-step meetings six nights a week, and clients can attend a weekly Big Book study during group therapy.

Creative Therapies

To give clients a full range of care, we offer creative therapeutic activities that allow clients to express their emotions through art and music. It can be challenging to vocalize shame and trauma throughout the recovery process, and we have found that creative therapy practices provide a different level of freedom. Some optional groups include spoken word workshops, Rock to Recovery, journaling prompts, creating vision boards, and independent art projects.

All our therapies and interventions are carried out through a trauma-informed lens. We understand that a history of trauma increases susceptibility to addiction and can delay your recovery process without qualified help of expert-level care. Therapy is critical in getting and staying sober. We believe no woman should have to walk through recovery alone – The Next Door aims to be the first building block of each woman’s sober support network.
